Step 1: 
Collect lots of evidence, micro-stories, and quotes to support your thesis, you are ready to begin writing your essay.

Step 2:
After you've collected lots of evidence, micro-stories, and quotes to support your thesis, you are ready to begin writing your essay.
  • Begin by writing a hook, title, the author of the text, a short summary, and your thesis.
  • Sample Hooks for Literary Essays
  • Begin writing your body paragraphs. Each paragraph needs to include your thesis, an example from the book, and at least two thought prompts. You need to have 3 body paragraphs.
Step 3:
Write a conclusion.
Sample sentence beginnings:
From this story I have learned that ...
Literature can help you understand things better. For example, I have come to realize...
This story teaches me...
As you can see, Dog is a good friend throughout the book. He is the kind of friend most people would hope for because he cares, he doesn't stop trying, and he sees only the best in people.

Step 4:
Edit and Revise
When editing and revising your essay, look for the following:

  • Repeat your thesis throughout the essay
  • Correct capitalization 
  • Compound Sentences
  • Transition words
  • Words from the text: Use quotation markes
